To use audio and/or video in Canvas there are mainly three options: Embed from another source, record with Canvas or upload previously recorded content. These are described below. You reach the embed option by clicking the icon with a cloud and the characters <>, on the far right. By clicking the media icon you can choose between

Upload/Record media
Course media
User media

Apart from these options you are also able to insert resources from Commons.

Embed media

To embed an audio or video clip you click the icon with a cloud and the characters <> on the far right. In the input box you paste the embed code you have copied from the source. A few example of where to find this embed code is described below.

From JU Play

Log in to play.ju.se and go to the clip you would like to embed. Just below the player you click Share and then switch to Embed. The code that appears in box the box should be copied and then pasted in Canvas.

From YouTube

Search for your clip at youtube.com and then click Share just below the player. Choose the option Embed and copy the code shown to you. Paste the code in Canvas.

From Vimeo

Find the clip you would like to use at vimeo.com and then hover your mouse over the player. Click the paper plane icon (Share) and then click the icon the these characters: </> (Embed). Copy the code and paste it in Canvas.

Record with Canvas

To record directly with your browser in Canvas you choose the option Upload/Record media and then switch to the Record tab. You must allow Canvas to use your camera and microphone (only these two are used, screen recording is unfortunately not possible). The recording is done just using your browser, no installation of software is needed - just click Start Recording!

Upload new media

To upload audio or video to Canvas you choose Upload/Record media and on the default tab (Computer) you simply drag and drop, or browser for your media file.

Note!

You are recommended to upload your media to JU Play instead and then embed the clip in Canvas.

Insert media that has already been uploaded to the course room

If an audio or video clip already have been uploaded to your course room you can easily insert it by choosing Course media. You will then get a list of media in your course and you simply click the one you would like to use.

If an audio or video clip already have been uploaded to your account/user you can easily insert it by choosing User media. You will then get a list of your media and you simply click the one you would like to use.

Media that has been uploaded to or recorded with Canvas have a few settings available. Click the video and then click the small popup Video options. From there you can set a title, change the size or add files for closed captions/subtitles.
